Week 3 14 - 20 April
Sunday 14
Quiet Sunday. Started watching COTA MotoGP sprint Jack came 7th and Viliales won from Marcus and Martin. Church at Cooranga North. Young fellow whose name I have to learn preached. Had a good yarn to Will Corbett after church. Talked with Alan and Peter the elders after church. They are keen to see what I will do. Asked me about joining session too. At the end we agreed I will preach on 28 June before we go to Bundaberg. At some time I will catchup when the interim moderator who us the minister in Kingaroy. When I have done this and we get back from Mackay we will catchup. After church we went to Pips n Cherries for lunch. When we got home we let the cows into the lane way to see if we can work out which cows belong to Dave and Zac's bull calves. No luck with that yet. Rest of the day sleeping and yarning. Watched episode 2 of Murder in Provence?
Monday 15
Started the day washing and working in the yard bringing the tractor up and changing the forks to the bucket so I can takeaway yard rubbish. I will be faster at it next time. Went for a ride around the farm with Dad and we saw some cattle up the back and on the hill near the container on the park side of the fence and when we got to the dam there was a fair mob in the cultivation and at the mill. Run out of time to deal with them today. Tomorrow maybe.
After lunch Robyn and I ride and repaired the the East side of the driveway fence and put all the cattle back in the west side cultivation. We then went up to the spring where 3 cows and a calf where in the lane paddock. We did some more fence repair and brought them down to the mill trough. The beginning of rounding up the missing herd. When I was out with Dad we saw a large mob of pigs between the park and the spring. Need to ring Lachy and tell him some time.
Tuesday 16
Robyn and I had breakfast and went into town to do a quick shop. Food for Nala, starter for the young bulls for Dave and Zac and scripts for Dad. Home by 12pm. Lunch and then we drafted out the Gold Coast bulls from the others ready for the truck to take the others to sale. I worked in the yard and Robyn trimed Bud the dog's hair to cut out matting and burrs. We did this until the truck to take the cattle arrived just after 3pm. They loaded pretty well. Robyn and I then took Quad bikes and road over the hills to see where the missed cattle were. Found about 20 head on the cultivation below the mill at the other place. We tried to move them toward the house paddocks but they start running around so we left them before they went through a fence. We came home and put out and starter for the 2 calves. Will check it all again tomorrow.
Wednesday 17
Started before breakfast with a quick ride around the farm. Keen to see what the cattle we tried to move yesterday did. Saw nothing up the spring. Moved some out of the paddock near Weir's and locked it up. Cattle we had left near the other place mill had found their way around to the crop paddock nearer the house so I shut the gates back to the other place. After breakfast I trimed trees in the yard a removed green waste to pile in the below the dairy. After lunch Robyn and I went out and repaired fences. Did not see any cattle up the back. Mowed the yard and finished the day by going for another look around the farm. Because we are going away for the weekend I opened all the gate from spring to the mill so any cattle in there can come to the mill for water. There was a cow bellowing to the calves in the yard so I chased her out to see if she would come up to the yard to feed the Gold Coast calves but she has not come near the yard again. Calves took all day but they ate the Calf mix we got for them. Will put out some more tomorrow. Dad's cleaner came today. Robyn made a great start on cleaning out the garden shed. All done but the shelves. Couple of sad things from Mackay Dale Kennedy passed away and Ruby Blackhurst's Dad took his own life. Neither is completely unexpected. The Cattle Ian sold only got $2.16 per Kg. I did not talk to him but I am sure he was disappointed. He says he will not sell the rest for less than $4.
Thursday 18
Cow I put out was not the calves mum but calves did eat the calf mix. Swapped the wheels on the van front to back. Had a go at putting the cow back in but no success Robyn did manage to do it later.
Took Dad to appointment in Dalby to check his eye. He got a good report and can finish treatment tomorrow. Went to Celeste's chemist shop and they had the deodorant Dad had been chasing. Saw Celeste and Kylie Anne was in there too.
We came back to meet Robyn and Pips and Cherries for lunch. Dad took himself home and we came on to Ben and Nay's. Nay, Meridy, Harley, Rose and Robyn went to Beauty and the Beast. Ben and I put kids to bed. I booked Undara visit and had a look at how how I will do Ironbutt to Darwin.
Friday 19
Today we are based at Ben and Nay's. We started tge day taking Charlie and Lucy to school. Robyn and I then went to AMX Springwood and visited the nearby bike shops. Team Moto has a number of shops in that area. The AMX visit was a real success we returned the wet weathers that did not fit and purchased 2 new pair of boots tours boots and a pair I could wear as school work boots. The bike shop visits were less satisfying as I wanted to see an Indian Scout but they did not have any. From here we had lunch with Nay and then I went to Blood Bank. Donation 223. After a quick play with the kids and some dinner I was on the train to Lang Park to watch Queensland Reds with Rohan Maddie and Grace. The won 31 to 0. Ben "watched" from box with a work related invite. After the game we came home together. Good Day.
Saturday 20
Today, we were up early with Charlie and Lucy. We went to Orion for morning tea. The playground was closed but the kids played on the grass. I rang dad it was raining up there. I rang David to make sure he knew we would be away the first week in May and he would need to make plans for feeding the calves. When we got home Ben gave me a collection of his tools and Robyn and I went to Meridy's and did some jobs. I secured the downpipe Ben fixed a couple of weeks ago and Meridy and I went to Bunnings and got a new light fitting for the outdoor area and I replaced it. At Bunning we managed to find a replacement heater for Dad's bathroom. Robyn wiped down and services the pictures Meridy want to put up and I re hung then under her instruction. Robyn started in the office. We had kebabs for tea. After cleaning up a little more we watched the remainder of Emma's Watson's Beauty and the Beast before coming back to Ben and Nay's. It was raining as we drove home.
