Week 38 15 - 21 December

Sunday 15
Having made the call not to go to the cricket today was fine and clear although we did get a shower in the afternoon but pretty much only at the house. Jenny Lee headrd off about 7.30 to meet Christie Lee at the airport. Church was in Bell Robyn has gone in early for a practice for tonight's Carols.  Andrew from Kingaroy on a memory stick was the preacher today.  Paul was not well and could not make it. That said the message was good. On 23rd Psalm reminding us to that it is not enough to know about Jesus if we did not live and love like him. Lunch at Pips n Cherries the last one for the year as they close for Christmas break. Home for a sleep and watch some cricket. Dad and I went and checked tanks. No need to pump water this week. Then off to Carols in Bell. Nice night. No one appeared eager to go home. Caught up with Jane Sullivan the Bell Vets wife who remember treating Garbo and Kay Gleeson had a big yarn with her. Got home about 9.30pm.
Monday 16
Another wet day. Sorted message for Sunday and did a bit on the Christmas Eve service too with Robyn's help. She has done the song sheet for Christmas Eve. Robyn made pulled pork for lunch very nice. Got a message to say bike is done. Went to Yarraman to pick it up. Mechanic felt it was in good order. Talked to Matt will work for him Thursday and to Stu when it stops raining we will catchup.
Tuesday 17
Started the morning being productive repairing the fence behind the shed near the top house so the cattle will not jump into the house yard. After breakfast while waiting to go to town I checked the tines on the tillers and WD40ed the one that need repair in the hope that one day I might get the bolts undone and I fix the yard gate. Trip to town was normal. It was a bit busier as Christmas gets closer. We picked up Pegs new washing machine. It was very rainy on the way home. After unpacking Robyn went to her Bible Study breakup and I took Pegs washing machine over. There was a fair bit of water about After the rain but no rain at Pegs. After unloading it and setting it up and loading the old one in the van to take it away I got back to the ironpot and the water was power down the creek. End up having to stay the night as it was still up at 9pm.
Wednesday 18
Unloaded the van had breakfast and took Robyn to Cooranga North to clean the church and while I went to Dalby to the Doctor. That went well and I got all clear for my knee just look after it. Next I went for coffee and then brought Robyn's Christmas present and lost my wallet. Must have dropped it getting in the car. Thankfully it was handed in to the police station almost straight away.  Ext got mower service kit patches for cows eyes then to bunnings for trackes for sliding doors, flag pole bits and pick up a lounge for Brn and Nay. Got fuel and headed home via Bell to pick up another package and get cow eye ointment from Vet. Got home without seeing any rain. After lunch we unloaded the ute and loaded the mower. Micheal Drew from next door arrived for a visit. He had been chased from a job in Tara by rain. With the mower and whipper snipper I headed up to the church to mow the grass. Got about a third done and it poured. Pushed through and finished it. Back home it had not really rained. There was big rain at Kumbia and around that way 100 mm in 30 minutes.  About 6pm Peg showed up. She could not get home from Kingaroy so she stayed the night. Had a couple of calls with Matt. He is thinking that the Boyne will be up so he may not be able to get to his house tomorrow. He will call after 6am.
Thursday 19
No work at Matt's today. We cannot get to the site as the rover has cut the road from both ways. Peg got up early and went home. Whopper snipped around the yard then went and finished the church. Caught up with Leanne OBrien on the way back and then took the rubbish to Bell. Came home for lunch. Serviced the mower and started to wash ut down bur ran out of batteries. Robyn and I repaired some fences one behind the top house and the fence between the bull paddock and the hill. It really needs to be rebuilt sometime.
Friday 20
Checked cattle on the hill. There are now 6 up there and springs of water in 2 places. Headed to Nathan and Katrina's today to help fit shower tray. Stopped in at RDO to see if we could buy a spring for the mower. No but they have one on order. Disruption came today with a call from centrelink which amounted to me having to do reporting for dad as long as Ian pays him. I was surprisingly disrupted by this and took a little while to return to joy. We had Dad's van and Robyn when on into Toowoomba to finish Christmas shopping.
On the way home we got a flat tyre in tge van. I could not get the wheel off and Nathan had to come and help with a sledge hammer and a couple of taps on the back of the rim loose it from the hub. Had this problem before need to get a hammer to put in the van. Robyn had a successful day. Nathan and I got the shower tray in and we got home about 9.30pm
Saturday 21
Before Paul and Jill arrived we had breakfast, mowed the grass and refilled mouse baits. After a cuppa we muster the cows and calves. Took about an hour and a half. After lunch we ran them all through the crush we got 88 cows 63 calves ( 37 bulls and 26 heifers) We put 5 heifers and 2 steers to the weaners paddock. We treated 3 cows for pink eye. That makes 65 head in the weaners paddock. Drafting took about 2 1/2  hours. We opened the gates so weaners could go to the paddock behind the dairy.
