Week 39 22 - 28 December
Sunday 22
Calf bellowing under the bedroom window the morning. It appears that one of the heifers we put into weaners paddock has a calf. Paul a d I went for a look and we could not work out which one. We went to church. I preached today. Paul and Jill went home from church. When we got home we had some lunch and a nap and woke to calf bellowing again. A look at the weaners paddock revealed a heifer with a large full udder. With a little patience we were able to bring her in and draft her out and return her to her calf. In true farm form we also found the the balltap on the mill tank was broken and the power supply to the bore pump was out. A call Logan and then to ergon and a reporposeing other broken ball tap parts saw both problems resolved before bed. The old buggy battery blew up yesterday I made a call to Chris and we yarned for an hour. This has happened before it was the regulator. His told me to cal QB4 in Toowoomba to get another. Ben rang to say they were going to come up a day early - tomorrow so I rang Matt to let him know I will not be with him tomorrow.
Monday 23
Rang QB4 a regulator is $254 and will take 6 weeks to get. We did the washing. Power went out at 8.30am til 1.30pm. Rode the Explorer to for milk first ride since service and it was great. Ben and Nay showed up before lunch. Checked the charge on the old buggy and it was good. Took all our bikes up to the top house and got out the little quad and the one with the slipping clutch. Repaired the slipping clutch but punched a hole in the cover with the impact driver. Fixed it with Knead it. Adjusted the idle on the Small quad. It looks like it needs a new fuel filter. Checked the water and it has been pumping the high tank is full. We top the tank behind the dairy and then turned it to empty tank at the mill.
Tuesday 24
Big day. Went to Bill and Julie's and picked up the van. Towed it back to the farm and set it up. Then Nay and Dad and I went to town. Did the shopping. Got hams, new tyre, put the van through the car wash. We had lunch at Jamacia Blue. Came home and got a Christmas tree. It was amount lots of cobblers Pegs so spent an hour pick Pegs out of socks shoes and the dogs. Changed and went up to church put up a new sign and setup for Christmas Eve service which went well. Would have been about 50 there. People stayed , had a cuppa and yarned till about 10pm. Frankie came to Church cause he followed Ben Nay and Grandad onto the road. In bed before midnight.
Wednesday Christmas Day
Kids were up early even for them. Lucy and I went and turned off pump that I forgot about yesterday. After Dad had breakfast we did presents. Everybody got lots. We used Robyn's new fry pan to cook some bacon and eggs to get the kids through to lunch. Meridy and her kids showed up at lunch which we ate at about 2pm. Meridy brought Maple and that was a problem for Nala who wanted to eat her. We had a long yarn with Anna and Kate using the Robyn new vloging tri pod. Was a nice day and I think Dad enjoyed his day too.
Thursday 26
Replaced light in the dinning room and put Dads tooth brush cup back up. Took the old buggy for a run around the paddock behind the piggery with Ben and checked the regulator charge. It was up to 18v at times need a new one. One of the heifers was out and when we tried to put her back she jump into the paddock with the cows and calves. We welded up the crush gate in the yards. Westerway's came out for lunch and the afternoon. Chris gave me a hand to move the dozer and we clean up the machinery around the dairy. Checked mouse baits only used 6 baits to top up.
Friday 27
Put a trap up over the entry to create some outside shade and maybe make that area more usable. Took a lap of the weaner paddock with Ben and the kids on the quads to check the fence. There is a bally cross weaner in the paddock. Could not see a fence issue. Mowed the grass. Ben helped with both tasks. After lunch we put the flag pole together and dug a hole for a socket for it to stand in. Jack and Izzy and Digger came today. Hayley went back to Ipswich she had work.
Saturday 28
It was my birthday. 61 today. Ben and I put up Dad's flagpole. We had Birthday Cake for morning tea and went up the Bunyas for lunch. There was Meridy, Matt and Rose, Ben, Nay, Charlie and Lucy, Robyn and Dad, Ian and Jayne, Greg and Sue, and Trudy and Ebony. Recieved a great book from Kate she wrote and illustrated and chated to Anna as she rode to Zarbs Cafe for breakfast with Jess. Watched a bad Christmas movie with Robyn to finish off a really good day. Thankful for all the Facebook messages too.
