Week 58 4 - 10 May CRD30
Sunday 4
Went to church with Ben and Nay at Ripley ACC. Came home for lunch then started back to the farm. Stoppedxin for a cuppa with Meridy who has not been well. Some flu bug. Stopped at John Drew's place next for a couple of bails of hay home about 6.
Monday 5
When back to John's for two more bales. Back home for breakfast. Fed the weaners then got in the van to pick up dad in Wondi. Met Jenny Lee about 11 we had an early lunch at Dan's Cafe then headed back home. Stopped in Kingaroy to do some shopping. Chemist was open do Dad could get scripts filled and not have to come back this week. Robyn washed. We ran weaners through the crush for a count. 16 Steers and 12 Heifers. 28 total. After this we did some work to try and clear the front half of the hill. Still about 20 head up there. Put grain out for the weaners and let them out as per routine. Finished the day with some prep for school tomorrow. Bed early.
Tuesday 6
Dalby CC relief today. Jenni my partner in the current contract us away this week. Prepared for tomorrow too. Robyn and I rode the hill again and saw cattle but they did not come down. Up the back we found a large number we where we had shut the water off two or three had crawled into the spring. We brought them down to water but they did not go through to the front so we left them look below the mill for the night. Weaners are eating grain well now. Booked Ex 2 for value check on 2 June and Darryl said he would come Thursday to look at the crop to bail.
Wednesday 7
School in Bell. Went in early and got planning down. Happy with that. Came home and Robyn was at Bible Study so I went out and checked cattle. The rest on the front hill paddock came in so that clears the way to muster and draft. Brought some more down from the spring. Still a fair few to come from there yet. Robyn got home in time to feed weaners. She got a call to cover at Dalby CC tomorrow and she has agreed to go in. So for the first time in 18mths we will go to work together tomorrow.
Thursday 8
Started with Robyn and I Moving cattle out of the paddock behind the house into the dam paddock. I added a couple of calves that had been left on the hill. We then got ready for school quickly to find a disaster. The cattle below the dairy had pushed the gate open and cattle were all over the front in the crop and headed past the other place mill up the back. Very disappointing. Dad managed to get the ones out of the crop during the day. Robyn's first lessons were a bit challenge as she work out how it work but finished strong. I had a good day and got the planning done for tomorrow. We had our first committee of management meeting on the way home. Gave is time to go up the back an there was one more cow to chase out if the entry paddock to the spring. We got no more in the mill paddock today as we were late and they were head for the hills for the night. Fed the weaners and called it a day.
Friday 9
Started early leaving for Theodore and Kevin Tysoe Warren Dad's funeral. On the way out I see the cattle are everywhere again. Shut the lane gate and headed down the road. Rang Robyn who went out to look and later tells mW that even though she had started a great job tracking everything down a number of the weaners had got out. Very frustrating. Got to Theodore in a good time stopped for fuel and breakfast in Miles. Funeral was an appropriate event and Warren spoke well about his Dad. It was great to see the family. Kerry and Mitch and Christie Lee. And good to catch up with Rob and Amanda. Feral was there too. We exchanged numbers reckon we might see him at the farm some time. There was sandwiches at the bowls club. I left about 1 and came home through Cracow. Fueled in Eidsvold and got home about 5 30pm as it was going dark. Robyn had been to a CWCI event in Dalby for lunch and had done a lot of work sorting out the cattle in the afternoon. See what tomorrow brings.
Saturday 10
Spent the morning riding the TTR over the farm to check where cattle are. Managed to bring in a few from the back hill paddock and got another 3 cows and calves off the spring hill. The weaners did not want to play so I just left them alone. Robyn prepared food for the races and we got away about 12pm. Was a very good afternoon. Catching up with family from all over. Robyn catchup with a heap of friends from school days etc. The BBQ steak was as good as ever. Robyn stayed at her mums and I when home. Dad had managed to get the weaners that had been in the house yard in the lane behind the house. I put them in the yard not before one went through the fence into paddock behind Containers.
