Week 59 11-17 May CRD34
Sunday 11
Went for a quick ride again and shut gates in ready to move cattle. Managed to bring another few head in off the front hill. Lead at Church at Cooranga North. Lachlan King has started on the restumping. After church I went back to Downes' for the afternoon and picked up Robyn and two bails of hay from Matt. When we got home we unloaded the hay. Put one in the rack. Robyn counted Cattle in the yard turns out there is 27 there so with the one that jumped through the fence now in the laneway that is the 28. Good news.
Monday 12
Left home early to go to Toowoomba to donate blood 247 done then I came back to Dalby to do lessons 3&4 at Dalby CC. Got home about 4.15pm the last weaner had jumped the fence in with the cows as Robyn tried to bring her up. I went for a quick ride up the back. Did not see the cow with blue ear tag who I think is the only one left on the spring hill. Looks like we have all the cattle off the front hill.
Tuesday 13
Cleaner came early so after washing up. Robyn and I brought the cattle off the cultivation above campers paddock. All the cows and calves are in the camper paddock and the dam paddock. We had a go at being the last 11 out of the back hill paddock but no luck. We dragged away the cow that had died on the campers paddock and then went to town. We met Peg in town for lunch. Got a hair cut, shopped, brought mouse baits and a roll of netting fence to sure up fences to yards. When we got home we moved hay feeder and grain troughs to the paddock behind containers and opened it up for the weaners to move out of the yards into there. We pit out the last bail of hay.
Wednesday 14
Bell today. Started into CAD with Year 10 and I felt it went well. Year 7 was harder to engage than I expected. Got up and the cattle were in the Bee Paddock with rain coming I went home to tell Robyn. She and Dad got them out in good time. I went to check gate this afternoon and found about 20 head in the cultivation beyond the over place mill gates were shut I have no idea how they got there. I put them out into Jimbour Creek and left the gates open so they can come back to water. Be pleasde to finish this season of cattle work. Talk to Matt today and he said I could borrow his scales which will be great. Suggested weaners should be 250kg and sale cattle 400 to 520kg. Hopefully Robyn can pick them up on Friday.
Thursday 15
Dalby CC today. There was rain over night but I was able to ride to work. Stopped after school to chat with Jan Maree. She was looking for my progress report. It is nice to be valued and I tried to be careful not to be an advice monster. Robyn and Dad went to Australia's biggest morning tea at the Cooranga North hall. It was later when I got home. I feed the weaners. On steer came in to get grain as I put it out. Went for a quick ride up to the gate to the containers and saw the cattle still up there. Lachlan came for tea. He is working on the church stumps.
Friday 16
Dalby CC today. I recieved a mad award a teacher recognition but other teachers award for caring for students. Very special given I am only there 2 days a week. It started to rain during the day and my ride home was very wet. Robyn went to visit her mum and they went fir a look at Matt's house. Internal is mostly sheeted. Pumped up rain water as the tank was running over. Don't think we will be doing cattle tomorrow.
Saturday 17
Still some light rain in the morning. Sunshine and cloud all day. Measured 44mm. Spent the morning working on my sermon for tomorrow. Darryl came to visit. Robyn made a cake for church and curried sausages for lunch. After lunch dad and I went for a ridecto check rain and we got the cattle out of the spring. They had come down. Couple of big steers amoung them. When we got back Robyn and I put up netting fence between the paddock behind the containers and the one behind the house where we collect cattle before we run them in the yards. We started on the laneway fence accross from the yards. Trying to stop cattle jumping out when we bring them up to the yards.
